Why are collections of certain scientific journals not always complete?

For certain scientific journals, access to the full text versions of different journal may be on a pay basis for part of the collection and in open access for another period.

The collection may also be accessible on several platforms.

Access to a whole digital collection therefore depends on the journal’s business model (free/paid).
