BibCnrs offers two new functionalities with the objectives of promoting the visibility and practices of open science.
Inist is now offering two experimental services on the BibCnrs portal: access to research data and the promotion of journals published under the Diamant model. These two new services are totally in line with the open science approach encouraged by the CNRS and with Inist’s actions to facilitate the management, sharing, diffusion and archiving of research data in accordance with the FAIR principles (easy to find, accessible, interoperable and reusable).
Access to research data
In the second National Plan for Open Science 2021-2024, research data is a new challenge for the sharing of scientific knowledge.
In 2023, BibCnrs will offer an experimental service for accessing research data; this is a new service that answers the needs of users.
This service completes the consultation of scientific publications and allows you to identify new knowledge while staying in your portal.
For this BibCnrs integrates, in a new specific tab, the interrogation of data sets since 2011 from the daily harvesting of the Datacite reservoir. DataCite is a global non-profit organisation that assigns DOIs to datasets and other research results.
More than 13 million datasets have been added to the hundreds of millions of articles already available in BibCnrs.
Valorisation of journals published under the Diamant model
Open Access “Diamant” is an economic model for scientific publishing in Open Access (OA).
This model is mentioned in the CNRS open science strategy as one of the levers for a more sustainable open science and a guarantee of bibliodiversity.
The introduction of a blue diamond-shaped logo in the “Journal, book” tab, in complement to the OA logo, contributes to this approach and aims to promote this publishing model and highlight publications that use it.
Open access scientific publishing “Diamond” is based on four main principles:
Publication is free for authors;
Consultation is free for readers;
Submissions are peer-reviewed;
Authors retain copyright over their work.
Webinars
The BibCNRS team invites you to discover these two experimental services through webinars. Several dates are possible (without prior registration):
Monday 13 February from 2 to 3 pm ;
Tuesday 14 February from 11:00 to 12:00 am;
Wednesday 15 February from 2 to 3 pm;
Thursday 16 February from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

Important message to users of the Click and Read extension!
The service offered by Click & Read in its version 2 is unique. The Click & Read extension has become more and more collaborative, and now includes 21 sources, with more to come very soon. It is the first tool that is so easy to install and use that allows you to combine access to resources from both the CNRS and other organisations.
In order to take advantage of the new sources (depending on access rights) and improvements, you must be in version 2.5.6 and above.
To check the version of your extension, right click on your extension, click on “Manage extension” and check the version of your extension.
If your extension version is lower than version 2.5.6, remove your extension and perform a new installation by clicking here.

Confirmed entries :
BioCyc: Acquisition following the free trial conducted in November 2021
RepBase: Acquisition following the free trial conducted in April 2022
Advanced Functional Materials and Advanced Materials (Wiley): Extension of our Wiley journal portfolio following negotiations 2023
Outstanding renewals :
ACS: Negotiations via the Couperin consortium are not yet resolved for 2023. The publisher is being very aggressive in the discussions. Couperin is fighting to keep the situation within the consortium’s framework notes.
Confirmed exits :
Cambridge University Press journals collection: The CNRS had signed an agreement in 2022 combining reading and unlimited open access publication with the publisher CUP. This one-year agreement, contracted on a probationary basis, confirmed the institution’s reservations regarding this type of agreement, which it preferred not to pursue. The decision was motivated in particular by the sub-optimal nature of the processing of publications and the significant additional costs requested by the publisher for the year 2023.
Journal of Leukocycte Biology (Wiley): The title has been transferred to Oxford University Press
Outstanding releases :
TheMetaNews: Subscription on hold. A decision by the Steering Committee of the Directorate for Open Data in Research (DDOR) voted to transfer this subscription to a third CNRS directorate with greater expertise in journalistic content subscriptions. The transfer is still under consideration.
A later message will clarify the final situation once the pending issues have been resolved.
The BibCNRS teams thank you for your loyalty and remain at your disposal.
Following the test phase in 2022, the CNRS has subscribed to the RepBase database in 2023.
RepBase is a database of more than 44,000 repetitive sequences representative of eukaryotic species and is used worldwide as a reference standard for annotating the presence of repetitive DNA in genomic data.
To access it, after logging into your BibCnrs portal, go to the “database” tab.
